After sharing
this post with a co-worker (who also knows
alparrott in real life), I just felt I had to try to get it wider dissemination.
Aaron, you need to keep a journal and write a fucking memoir someday. That's some funny shit, and great phrasing.
National Geographic collector, hehe
The rest of the story
As far as the writing thing - if that was all I did in life, I'd be perfectly happy to pursue a writing career. Unfortunately, life and a total lack of patience almost always keep me from finishing things. I have probably started or come up with the idea for ten novels in the last two years and not one of them got beyond sixty pages. Some of them have never even made it onto paper.
Writing competently takes concentration and research. What with the internet, research is much easier. I can download a street map of New York and make it realistic enough in my story. But that takes time I usually want to devote to other things (to include my real job), and inevitably it becomes a "coulda-woulda-shoulda" thing, especially when someone else takes the idea to the bank first. I ought to apply for patents more often but then I'd be just wasting time and money on undeveloped properties, and I prefer to let Rob Liefeld do that.
But thanks for the support. Hopefully I become as good at some of my other pursuits as you think I am at writing.
