Browser wars revisited

Checking my site logs today, I noticed that IE's share of hits has actually increased, despite the high-profile launches of Opera 6 and Netscape 6, not to mention the attention that Mozilla has been getting.

In May 2002, Internet Explorer (all versions) had 90% of the hits on my site. In July 2001 (earliest stats I have online), they only had 83% of the hits. And this is while more attention in the media is being placed on alternative browsers. It's inconceivable!

I guess it just goes to show what I've said all along - The average person is an idiot.

Yep, that's why most people use it. But somehow, the number of folks using Netscape and Opera have declined, and IE was being installed by default a year ago too.

Seriously, try Opera, you may like it. MDI is a good thing...

where the hell do i get Opera from? i had one other thing a long time ago, but it used to piss me off, i think it was one of those if you use this to surf we will pay you like 2 cents a year, lol

I used to use the AllAdvantage toolbar, and ran a fakesurf program while I was at work (cable modems are good), but I think I got only two checks for a total of like 27 bucks before the company went bankrupt.

Opera is pretty easy to figure out, though. Try their website for a start. :-)

Some of the things I like about Opera: MDI interface for reduced OS clutter, mouse gestures (makes it quick to go back mainly), the ability to kill popups if you want to, great cookie management, a cool feature that sets up a "linked" window that all links will open in while leaving the original window unchanged... I think that's the major ones. And, I think it works faster than IE, but on a pathetic dialup connection it's hard to tell.

hey now i have a cable modem, lol, ill have to download it....i used to run idlers over alladvantage and get checks...i got like 6 or 7 checks from them....i got like 2 checks long after i stopped using it...i had a lot of ppl under me, that i recommended, but the catch was i had to match their hours to get paid for their hours as well and i hadnt, but i got paid, i didnt argue, it was easy to dope them, lol...hence why then went bankrupt, lol....ill download opera and try it out, even though i have no clue what mdi interface for reduced OS clutter means, lol

I don't get the obsession with IE either, especially when everyone who tries an alternative browser likes that alternative better. Netscape 6 is a stunning example of how much better a browser can be over Exploder.
The only reason I ever use IE is for Microsoft-proprietary web sites where Netscape simply won't function. And every time I have to run IE, I find five new reasons why I've never liked it!

Only the ignorant, or the stubborn, cling to IE.

Recently, Sharp introduced a new handheld Zaurus, which uses Linux as the OS and Opera as the browser. However, the page that announced this was inaccessible using Opera unless you spoofed the server. Amazing piece of web design, blocking out the people most likely to buy your product. heh
