Kerry says failure to deal with regime led to nuclear threats...as if Clinton dealt with the DPRK any better? Or Bush 41 or Reagan? For whatever combinations of reasons, we haven't had a consistent policy dealing with North Korea in the past 20 years; I wonder what Kerry supposed we should do about them.

There is nothing militarily we can do. Not only do we now risk our troops getting nuked, but the DPRK actually HAS a military, unlike Iraq. Further, military action against them would provoke a reaction from China, who would think of it as a stepping stone to hitting them. Considering they already openly state that the US and they will have a military confrontation sooner than later, it's all pretty tangled. I think, as I have said before, the answer to our problems in the Pacific (for some time at least *cough*) is to release Japan from it's shackles and let them have a military again.

Oh I can completely see that. But I think they would start rebuilding out of a sense of pride and out of necessity if we said we were pulling out. we've been paying for their defense for how long now? Of course every country in the area would fucking explode when they heard about it.

Ya know... we 'all know' that politicians, by definition, are ignorant, deceitful, and immoral. Why then are we surprised when individual politicians act ignorantly, deceitfully, or immorally? Did we forget what they do for a living?
