Laura Bush inside the Bubble

Apparently the First Lady is totally enveloped in the infamous Bush Bubble.

“I don’t really believe those polls. I travel around the country. I see people, I see their responses to my husband. I see their response to me,” she said.

Well, of course you don’t believe it. All the people you see around the country are hand-selected for their zeal. Does anyone in the Bush White House live in the “reality-based” world?

Is it possible she doesn't realize that the reason she never hears a contray opinion is that no one who holds one has been allowed near her since sometime in the late eighties or so?

It's astounding to me, the levels of denial in this administration. You'd think someone would realize that "30 percent and falling" is not a good thing. Government of the people, by the people, and all that jazz - mobocracy is not a goal, but listening to the people once in a while is wise.

I bet she doesn't even know what a Free Speech Zone is--especially because no one around her seems to understand that the purpose of the United States was to be one before Orwell came to town.

Remember how amazed George the First was when he saw a grocery scanner for the first time? His keepers really dropped the ball that day.

It's his second term. He doesn't have to care. And the kind of people who hate him strongly enough to vote their hatred this year probably already have Democratic representation. I don't even think the next Presidential elections are a foregone conclusion unless the Democrats can come up with something other than "We're not Republicans!" to campaign on. She's oblivious, no doubt about it, but in a way she's right. The polls are worth a bucket o' warm spit.

Well, the polls are not terribly important, to be sure. The context of her interview sure seems to imply that she just believes in the liberal media conspiracy, though.

It would be nice if we had a strong three-party system; failing that, a strong two-party system is also a nice fantasy I indulge in once in a while. The "Not Republican" party is nearing irrelevance, after only 8 years out of power. How did THAT happen?
