OK, if Corto can admit it, so can I. I, too, am a male baker. Whew! I feel so much better.

Today was Baklava Day. Baked up a big ol' pan of baklava and even used the scraps (my pans are too narrow for the phyllo dough) to make rolled baklava. I usually just throw the scraps out, but Ang thought we should use them for something.

So, in the past year I've made a bunch of baklava, a pumpkin cheesecake, a chocolate cheesecake, and various brownies and cookies. Next up: black forest cake. Mmmm, I love that stuff.

Of course, being not quite the glutton I once was, the majority of the baklava is going to work to feed the ungrateful ones I must spend many of my waking hours with.

I remember a "Christmas cookie exchage" at this company I worked for 2 years ago... I baked all these "kifli" cookies (sweet-filled delicate pastries... a christmas thing), like three dozen for the exchange... everybody got 6 of each others cookies. Not a word of a lie, and I'm not overdoing it in the least when I say that everybody elses cookies were total crap! Some where store bought, others?? just crap! hahaha.. so last year instead of opting into the cookie exchange, I just baked 3 dozen kifli and kept 'em.

I love going to potluck things and seeing KFC chicken, or baked sales with people taking things out of the original plastic wrap. Um, it's not a bake sale if you just bought some Oreos on the way into the office, folks. Kind of goes against the whole spirit of the thing, in my opinion.

Of course, I have on occasion made Pillsbury cookies to take to work, but at least I baked them myself, even if I didn't mix the dough and stuff.
