This seems a bit over-the-top, even for crazy people.  So, I’m curious if any Alaskans (Lorri?) have any insight as to whether the story in LA Progressive has the ring of truth or just hatchet job.

Dead link, but I'm assuming it's the "Sambo beat the bitch" comment? I've heard about it on the journalism lists, so I assume it's drawing a wider notice. And yet most people seem to be shrugging and saying, "That's just how they talk in Alaska." Face. Palm.

I doubt that bloojanuary talks like that. I fixed the link, but it is the Sambo article.

If it's true, that's just batshit insane. It seems hard to believe, though, that the governor of even a sometimes-strange state would be making such statements in public.

Honestly, I've never heard anything about her saying such things up here. I'm not saying she didn't, nor would I be surprised, but that just hasn't been in the news around here. Also, I'm not sure about "LA Progressive"...but it's hard to believe everything someone writes when all of his sources are anonymous. Again, not saying it's not true or didn't happen...

Also, the stuff about the Arctic Arabs...I find hard to believe, considering her husband, Todd Palin, is like a quarter Yup'ik. I think (and HOPE) she would never say such a thing. Again, who knows.

I believe there will be other more damning information released in the coming weeks. It will be especially interesting to see what comes out of "Troopergate." Last week it was announced that she hired a lawyer to defend her in this mess (after basically telling the people of Alaska to "bring it on" in terms of the investigation--and her campaign platform for governor was transparency). Apparently her lawyer is telling her witnesses not to cooperate with the State's investigation, and last week 7 of her witnesses didn't show up for depositions. She's now trying to put forth her own attorney as the one to investigate this matter (with findings *after* the election). Right now the State investigation is supposed to be finished by Oct. 31st. The State investigation and time lines were all put in place before she was even selected as the VP nom. It's insane, and I think bad things are coming to her soon. For someone with nothing to hide, she's sure making a convoluted mess out of the whole thing.

Palin asked not once, but three times - once before she took office and twice thereafter, if the librarian would be willing to consider removing books from the shelves... not naming specific books, just testing the waters. This was outside of normal channels (which do exist) for requesting that books be removed.

Multiple sources (probably all quoting one original source) indicate that she asked for resignation letters from several officials "as a test of loyalty". Mind games.

Michelle Malkin expressed shock that Emmons/Baker was allowed to keep her job, when other "political appointees" were routinely rotated out when someone new took office.

Since when is CITY LIBRARIAN a job that requires political shmoozing and cronyism? E/B had been in the job for seven years. Obviously, she wasn't totally incompetent... although I'm not totally impressed with the Frontiersman (several strange renditions of words). I'm also not impressed with Palin's usage of the word "rhetorical". I think "theoretical" might have been more accurate, and still a cop-out.
