I think patchoulli perfume smells of musty rooms and old people. I can't imagine why one would purposely wear such a scent. Am I the only one who finds patchoulli repulsive?

I actually had a male student at Goodfellow (20 or so) who wore patchoulli. I harassed him about it endlessly. It's like bad incense or an old cedar chest.

I think it's also part of that not-so-rare "young-adult-angst" persona. Maybe some lesbian told that guy it was cool and he really looked up to her or something. It wasn't "sasha", was it?

pachoullie is awful, imo.
I think a lot of pot-smokers wear it to mask the pot-odor, but personally I find the smell of pot more flattering.

I certainly hope the patchoulli-wearing bozo at my office isn't covering up pot smoke - I work in a secure facility with clearances and stuff. :-)

My thought was that it was popular among the hippies. (I've never smelled a lesbian wearing that stuff...ick...lesbians are supposed to be yummy.) Anyway...back at school (Eugene, OR), everyone wore it. Of course, Eugene is the hippie mecca... I always thought they were trying to mask their b.o. (they prefer patchoulli rather than deodorant).

Maybe it was just the lesbians in Texas. I swear, every party I went to, every cookout I attended, reeked with the crap. These were also earth mothers...maybe big amongst them? Either way the stuff just sucks.

Patchouli? Not all of it reeks, and no, the lesbians that I know don't wear it. Patchouli definitely has a distinct scent and I have found that the scent (good/bad) is in direct proportion to the quality and amount used. The cheap stuff reeks like musty moldy mushrooms...The good stuff in moderation, well, that's an entirely different story.
